The Cherohala Skyway is one of only 96 designated National Scenic Byways. Crossing through the Cherokee and Nantahala National Forests to connect Tellico Plains, TN and Robbinsville, NC, the Skyway took more than 30 years and 100 million dollars to complete. The road, almost 50 miles long, is a wide, well maintained 2-lane road with few passing lanes. If your trip to the mountains involves sightseeing, the sights from the Skyway will stay with you long after your returnhome. Approximate Mileage: 65 miles Follow Interstate 575 from Atlanta northward on the Georgia Mountain Parkway, which includes the towns of Jasper, Ellijay, Blue Ridge, Blairsville, Young Harris and Hiawassee. Along the way this scenic route offers beautiful mountain views, wildflowers, apple orchards, festivals, antiques and galleries — and a wealth of opportunities for outdoor exploration and adventure. The entire trail takes about three days to complete. The trail includes the Georgia cities of Blue Ridge, Ellijay, Chatsworth, Blairsville, Young Harris, Hiawassee, Clayton, Dillard and Mountain City. Approximate Mileage: 11 miles Officially known as US 129 at Deal’s Gap, the Tail of the Dragon regularly draws cyclists and sports car enthusiasts to challenge the 11-mile long route through the mountains of western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee. That’s an average of 28.9 curves every mile. Approximate Mileage: 102.4 miles The U.S. Forest Service has produced a daytrip driving tour through the Chattahoochee National forest and surrounding countryside beginning in Morganton, traveling GA Highway 60 through Suches to Dahlonega. From Dahlonega the route takes Highway 52 west to Amicalola Falls State Park and Ellijay. Sights include expansive views of beautiful rural valleys all year and stunning displays of colorful foliage in the fall. Attractions along the way include access to the Appalachian and Benton MacKaye Trails, the Chattahoochee National Fish Hatchery, Deep Hole Recreation Area, Cooper Creek, Woody Gap, Amicalalola Falls and Ellijay’s Apple Alley.Scenic Drives and Rides
